These are the top things you need to know about heating your home with propane and whether or not it’s safe.

Why Go For a Propane Heater?

Propane is one of the best fuel sources out there!  Not only does it heat evenly, spreading the warm temperatures out and maintaining that temperature instead of bouncing and rebounding into a middle point, but it also lasts longer, which makes it affordable.

Propane is one of the few types of natural gas that are considered green because of how little pollution it puts off and how easy it is to use.

Is Propane Safe to Use Indoors?

Yes!  Propane is completely safe to use indoors!  In fact, some people have their homes entirely heated by propane, while others use it to heat their ovens and stove.  OF course, any gas like this isn’t safe if it’s simply floating freely throughout your home, so there are some rules you should follow if you decide to use it.

What Mistakes Should You Avoid?

When you get your propane delivery, the average driver will give you a quick rundown on what to watch out for, but the rules are generally pretty simple.

  • Don’t use a punctured propane tank.
  • Don’t use your tank until it runs out.
  • Don’t store propane tanks outside in winter.
  • Don’t forget to crack a window to be safe if it’s a space heater.
  • Don’t allow anything flammable near it.

Every situation is different, so although these tips might not apply to the current needs of your case, they can save your life in some other problems.

Can Propane Handle the Cold?

Propane can handle the cold!  Propane only freezes when it hits negative three hundred degrees Fahrenheit, so you’re not at risk of that happening anywhere near your home any time soon!

Propane only hits its liquid state at negative 40 degrees Fahrenheit, so if you’re nervous about that happening and you live in a wintery area, don’t worry!  As long as the interior of your home is above freezing and the tank is inside, it’s safe.

How to Swap Your Propane Tank When It’s Time

When it’s time to swap your propane tank, look at how much is left!  Don’t wait until it empties out completely since this can lead to leaks and other issues.  Instead, swap at around 5 to 10% left.  This will let you use as much as you can while also protecting your tank so it can be reused.

You can take your tank to a store or have your propane distributor deliver a new tank to you.  Don’t discard any unwanted tanks in the trash. Give that to a propane company to recycle or dispose of.

Propane is the Perfect Fuel

Propane is flawless!  Not only does it heat as evenly as possible, but it also uses far less fuel to do so.  Consider making the switch to better energy soon!
